Art in the Classroom and the School

As we have focused on art as a medium to build connections, many teachers have noticed that there has been more collaboration between students within their own classrooms. With more art being displayed throughout the school, teachers report that students loved seeing all the different artwork and often connected with it in some way. Students were heard saying things like "that’s my buddy’s class" or "that’s my sister’s class". Staff also report that we have seen more celebration of cultures in the hallway art work, and even when students are doing individual art in the same space, it is leading to the students connecting with each other more. Staff also noticed that our focus of re-connecting through the arts is improving the experiences of our learners, as all their students feel included, regardless of their individual ability levels. They all manage to participate and access the art in some way at their own level.
