Community Mural Project
Artist Ben Evely puts the finishing touches on our new Community Mural. Ben received input from students, staff, and parents to incorporate into Mitchell's new mural on the west side of the building facing #5 Road. We were asked to share our thoughts on what makes us unique, as well as to describe a place which makes us feel comfortable or at home. Ben used our responses to help shape the image. For example, the plant pots are a mosaic of homes, inspired by the many houses that were doodled in our responses. The pots symbolize comfortable spaces and communities, and how they can provide a nurturing environment for passions to flourish. Spending time in nature and by the ocean was another common theme that came out in our responses. Forms inspired by glass sponges deep under the waves in Howe Sound and the Salish Sea are represented. Creative pursuits like drawing and listening to or making music also came through in our responses. Wiggling lines are representative of sound waves and music production software visuals. Thanks Ben, for taking our thoughts on individuals and communities and bringing them to life in this vibrant work of art!
